Time On His Hands
In Peter Pan, the crocodile that chases Captain Hook has a clock ticking inside its belly. This was the same crocodile that ate his hand.
Captain Hook seems to be paranoid. He fears the sound of the clock.
That slow, steady tick that says:
I’m coming for you. Time is up.
That same clock is chasing some of us too.
It ticks in our chest.
In our choices.
In our prayers.
I was reminded this while watching the rather depressing show, The Bear.
In the show, there’s a countdown on the counter.
It ticks down to the day they either turn the restaurant around—or close the doors.
So many of us have: Chronophobia.
Time anxiety.
The fear that you’re behind.
The fear that you’ve missed it.
The fear that your window has already closed.
So we rush.
We force what isn’t ready.
We try to microwave what God is slow-cooking.
We trade alignment for adrenaline.
And then wonder why our peace is gone.

Clock It
Saul rushed.
He waited seven days for Samuel—just like he was told.
But when day seven came and the prophet wasn’t there,
he panicked.
He made the offering himself.
It looked like leadership.
But it was fear dressed in armor.
And it cost him everything.
David, on the other hand, waited.
Anointed but not yet crowned.
Hidden, hunted, overlooked.
But he didn’t take the throne by force.
Because he trusted the timing of the One who gave the oil.
Not every delay is a no.
Sometimes it’s protection.
Sometimes it’s preparation.
But it’s never punishment.
Can I Get A Witness?
There’s a term clockmakers use: witness mark.
It’s a scratch—a subtle line—etched near the gears.
It shows where everything used to line up.
So if the timing gets thrown off,
they don’t guess.
They reset to the mark.
God leaves those too.
Moments in your story that whisper:
This is where it was right. Start again from here.
Some of us aren’t out of time.
We’re just out of rhythm.
And we’re trying to sprint our way into something that only obedience can unlock.
The prodigal son asked for his inheritance early.
He didn’t want to wait on the Father’s timing.
And what came too soon unraveled too fast.
Because a gift outside of season becomes a curse.
Time Stopped
There’s a watch in Hiroshima frozen at 8:15 a.m.—
the moment the bomb dropped.
Time didn’t run out.
It just froze in the trauma.
That’s what fear does.
It doesn’t just make you rush.
It also makes you freeze.
But God’s not late.
And grace doesn’t panic.
He knows where you are.
He knows what He said.
And He’s not bound by your countdown.
So breathe.
You’re not behind.
You’re not forgotten.
And you don’t have to force what faith can wait for.
When it’s time—really time—
you won’t have to kick the door open.
It’ll swing.
And in the meantime—
“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” (Colossians 3:2)
Like setting a clock,
align your thoughts with heaven.
The pace of Grace.
Let the rhythm of eternity reset your urgency.
The witness mark. How cool! What a great comparison and prescription. One of my favourite pieces of yours, Brandon!
Great thoughts!
